What is Green Coffee?

Green coffee is unroasted raw coffee.  Unroasted coffee beans, better known as green coffee beans or green coffee, is essential to home roasting the best cup of coffee you’ve ever had. When it comes to any food and drink, organic and fresh is the best way to enjoy what nature intended. However, grocery stores and even our favorite local coffee shops carry coffee beans (ground & whole) that have been sitting on shelves for months, sometimes even years, before it reaches our cup! Shocking!

What many are familiar with is the stale remains of what was roasted and packaged long ago. If “old coffee” pricks the sensations of morning birds and draws in coffee nuts, how much more so would a fresh roasted cup of coffee brighten our day?

With billions of coffee addicts around the world, it’s no wonder that home-roasting is quickly becoming one the fastest growing trends. Raw green coffee guarantees freshness. It is simply the best way to enjoy all the tastes and aromas that coffee has to offer.

Why is Green Coffee different?

Unroasted raw coffee is unbeatable when considering price, quality, and quantity.
The latest statistics show that coffee drinkers average a little over 3 cups of coffee per day in the United States. If you are among the millions who enjoy coffee in all its glorious forms: hot, iced, or specialty- which include latte, mocha, café mocha, cappuccino, espresso, frozen coffee beverages, fraps, etc., these can be achieved at home!

This is a great way to save money without sacrificing the quality and taste you love. If anything, by home roasting raw coffee, individuals actually increase the quality & freshness of their beloved beverage for a fraction of what they spend outside. Hundreds of dollars can be saved! Also, by home roasting green coffee, the title “barista” can be acquired as you entertain guests with your own unique blends.

What is COE?

The Cup of Excellence is revered worldwide by coffee aficionados for awarding top coffees around the globe. These honors emerge from strict competitions that choose the very finest coffee produced in that country for that particular year. These winning coffees are chosen by a select group of national and international cuppers and are cupped at least five different times during the competition process. Only coffees that continuously score high enough are allowed to move forward in the competition. The final winners are awarded the prestigious Cup of Excellence® and sold to the highest bidder during an internet auction. Quality Green Coffee has won quite a few of the best selections.

What makes these coffees so special?
These coffees meet the rare standard of high marks across the board.  Picked when perfectly ripe, these coffees are carefully gathered and considered for keeping only if they consistently have a pleasant aroma, well developed body, and a lively sweetness that only exceedingly high quality specialty coffees carry. Few participants pass the rigorous requirements before even being considered to be among the final few to receive this prestigious award.

Why is the Cup of Excellence important?
Fundamentally changing coffee tradition, the Cup of Excellence explores new standards in what was formerly considered exemplary coffee. For years hardly any recognition was given to the individual farmer or to the great attention given to cultivate a coffee’s unique flavor. Many great coffees have been blended away creating a commodity that while good, tends to taste fairly uniform.

The Cup of Excellence program develops new relationships between the first-rate farmer, the specialist trade and in time the passionate consumer who discovers coffees he truly adores; all the while having peace of mind in knowing the original farmer was fully compensated.

Cup of Excellence constructs international ties in countless forms. Hardly any program puts as much attention upon individual empowerment, education and training with no bias against economic status or gender.

Green Coffee Storage:

Green coffee bean storage is simple: what is considered generally comfortable to people, is considered comfortable to green coffee beans. Just as a person would not want to be in direct sunlight or in excessive humidity, unroasted coffee beans do not thrive in direct sunlight or excessive humidity. Raw coffee should be kept in a cool, dry place.

The freezer tends to dry out raw coffee for lack of moisture, and the refrigerator tends to be too humid (from trapped moisture from other foods). Who would want their coffee with traces of cheese or leftovers in its flavor anyways?

Breathable cases are most preferable for storage. Quality Green Coffee carries lovely green Rice Paper stand-up-pouches that can be left open on counters away from direct sun. Cotton Bags and Burlap Drawstring Bags will be featured soon for bulk storage.  If kept properly, raw green coffee bean shelf life can be up to a year and still retain its original character when roasted.
